The Responsibilities of a Board Member

Attendance at Meetings and Participation

It’s a given that board members must be present for meetings, whether in person or on the web. Financial Management

This includes preparing and reviewing budgets, managing reserve funds, and making sure that assessments are taken care of. To make decisions and reduce risks, the board must be aware of the financials of the community.

Policy Compliance / Governing documents

This is among the more significant duties, and it requires an understanding of the community’s governing documents and an understanding of the federal, state, and local laws. This ensures that the community is always in compliance and that the board is able to make the right decisions in the event of a crisis. It also means being able answer questions from residents and address their concerns as well as enforcing rules when necessary.
